He stated that Uganda’s construction sector continues to play a critical role in national economic development through investments in roads, commercial buildings, industrial parks, housing projects, airports, and energy infrastructure.
He further emphasized that the increasing demand for reliable and sustainable energy solutions is creating major opportunities in solar energy, electrical systems, energy storage, transmission technologies, EV solutions, and smart infrastructure. He noted that the co-located exhibitions have been organized with the vision of bringing together the construction, power, energy, and solar sectors under one roof to create a strong platform for business networking, technology exchange, investments, partnerships, and industry collaboration. Over the next three days, the Expo will witness participation from leading manufacturers, suppliers, technology providers, consultants, engineers, contractors, developers, renewable energy experts, and policymakers from multiple countries.
During his address, Rajesh Kumar spoke about the vast business opportunities in Uganda’s power, energy, and solar sectors. He highlighted that Uganda’s energy sector offers tremendous growth potential driven by an under-developed rural grid, rising demand for electrification, and abundant year-round sunshine. He pointed out the growing demand for hybrid off-grid systems for schools, hospitals, and rural institutions, while also noting the Government of Uganda’s continued support for renewable energy development through favorable policies, including VAT exemptions on qualifying solar products.
He further emphasized that Uganda offers strong investment opportunities supported by a rapidly growing economy, liberalized foreign exchange policies, strategic regional trade access, abundant natural resources, and a young, trainable English-speaking workforce. He described Uganda as a strategic gateway to both the East African Community (EAC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), offering investors access to over 1.4 billion consumers across Africa. He concluded by describing Uganda’s success mantra as the “Three Ps” — Peace, Prosperity, and Profit.
Mansi Gaur, Max Group Spokesperson, stated that Uganda is witnessing remarkable growth in construction, urban development, industrialization, and energy expansion. Nambooze Maliam, Board Member of Women in Construction & Infrastructure Uganda (WICI), welcomed exhibitors and delegates from the various participating nations. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of inclusive participation in the construction and infrastructure sectors, stating that meaningful national development cannot be achieved when a significant portion of the population remains underrepresented in key sectors of the economy.
She highlighted the important role played by Women in Construction & Infrastructure Uganda in increasing women’s participation within the sector and contributing towards a more balanced and inclusive economy. She further stated that quality infrastructure development positively impacts various sectors including tourism, agriculture, trade, and healthcare, all of which depend on strong infrastructure systems such as roads, hospitals, and public facilities. She added that the Expo has come at the right time for Uganda as it will promote collaboration, technology transfer, innovation, partnerships, and shared economic growth.
Kiara Binta Nkuranga, Hon’ble President, Uganda National Association of Builders, Suppliers and Engineering Contractors (UNABSEC) she highlighted that construction is not just putting things up but it’s about creating jobs, setting up businesses, improving livelihood and it’s about national transformation.
