This significant regional initiative is designed to address the pressing issue of marine plastic pollution through targeted capacity building and implementation strategies. In conjunction with the launch, the outcomes of Phase 1 of the project have been published, including the Situation Assessment Reports and Technical Guidelines for six key ASEAN cities, which aimed at preventing plastic and resin pellet leakage from recycling facilities. <\/p>\n<p>The Capacity Building Programme for<br \/>\nReducing Recycling-Related Marine Plastic Pollution in ASEAN Cities (CaRMPAC<br \/>\nProject) will be officially launched on 16 August 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.<br \/>\nThis significant regional initiative is designed to address the pressing issue<br \/>\nof marine plastic pollution through targeted capacity building and<br \/>\nimplementation strategies. In conjunction with the launch, the outcomes of<br \/>\nPhase 1 of the project have been published, including the Situation Assessment<br \/>\nReports and Technical Guidelines for six key ASEAN cities, which aimed at<br \/>\npreventing plastic and resin pellet leakage from recycling facilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Publication of Situation<br \/>\nAssessment and Technical Guidelines<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Phase 1 of the CaRMPAC Project<br \/>\nfocused on a comprehensive situation assessment and the development of<br \/>\ntechnical guidelines, which aimed at preventing plastic and resin pellet<br \/>\nleakage from recycling facilities. This phase covered six key ASEAN cities: Pattaya,<br \/>\nNonthaburi, Hanoi, Iloilo, Manila, and Vientiane. The situation assessment<br \/>\nrevealed critical factors contributing to plastic leakage. That resulted in the<br \/>\ncreation of technical guidelines\u00a0and manuals tailored to each city to<br \/>\nimprove recycling process and practices to prevent plastic leakage across both<br \/>\nformal and informal sectors. The outcomes of Phase 1, including the Situation<br \/>\nAssessment Reports and Technical Guidelines, have been published and are<br \/>\navailable for free access <a href=\"https:\/\/rkcmpd-eria.org\/our-project\/situation-assessment-and-technical-guidelines-for-plastics-and-resin-pellets-leakage-prevention-from-factories-and-informal-sector-in-asean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Launching Phase 2: Capacity<br \/>\nBuilding Programme<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following the successful completion<br \/>\nof Phase 1, Phase 2 of the CaRMPAC Project aims to expand its reach to<br \/>\nadditional cities and countries, including Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City,<br \/>\nBandung, Davao City, and others. Over the next 24 months, this phase will address<br \/>\nthe capacity gaps identified in Phase 1, with a particular focus on informal plastic<br \/>\nrecyclers and relevant city government regulators.
